PACKING. LET'S GET PRACTICAL.

Your excitement level is high. Well, it would be if not for the logistics and dreaded packing. Worry not! An essential packing checklist is coming your way, making sure you have everything you need – from clothes and deodorant to chargers and cameras.

HAND LUGGAGE
  • Please clearly mark each piece of your luggage with your full name and phone number.
  • Passport/visa
  • Photocopy of your passport
  • Credit cards/cash
  • Health & travel insurance documents
  • Prescription medications (and any medications you will need while traveling, including Tylenol/Aspirin)
  • Snacks
  • Mobile device/charger/camera
  • One change of clothing
  • Books and magazines
  • Reading glasses/sunglasses
  • Hand sanitizer/wet wipes/tissues
  • Any liquids should be in containers no larger than 100 ml (3.4 ounces) and placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag (up to 20 x 20 cm)
  • No tweezers or sharp instruments
WEATHER
  • The weather in Italy is temperate and varies considerably between different regions of the country, especially during the winter season.
  • Northern Italy is characterized by very cold winters and hot and humid summers.
  • The climate in Central Italy is milder with a less intense cold season than the north and longer summers.
  • Winters in southern Italy and the islands are mild.
  • Rain falls evenly throughout the year in Venice, but more seasonally in Rome, where summers are drier than winters.
  • In Rome: October, November, & December have the most rain. June & July are the driest months. July & August are the hottest months. January, February, & December are the coldest months.
  • In Venice: November has the most rain. January & February are the driest months. December, January, & February are the coldest months. July & August are the hottest months.
  • In Florence: October & November have the most rain. January & February are the driest months. June, July, & August are the hottest months. December, January, & February are the coldest months.
  • Use a website such as weather.com to find average temperatures and rainfall during your travel time.

  • Lightweight, layerable, versatile clothes in non-wrinkle fabrics
  • Light tops (short or long sleeve)
  • Tank tops/undershirts
  • Short sleeve polo shirts and t-shirts
  • Sweater/cardigan/light jacket
  • Jeans/khakis
  • Sweatpants
  • Gym clothes & sneakers
  • 1 pair of comfortable walking shoes and 1 pair of more formal shoes
  • Clothes for Shabbat
  • Pajamas
  • Swimsuit
  • Sun hat
  • Flip flops or sandals
TOILETRY BAG BASICS
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste/floss
  • Hair products including brush/comb
  • Deodorant & personal hygiene items
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Moisturizer/makeup
  • Contact lenses/solution/contact lens case/glasses
  • Shaving kit
  • Cologne/perfume
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • If you plan to bring hair dryers/straighteners, make sure to have the appropriate electrical converter
MISCELLANEOUS
  • Small backpack for day touring
  • Folding bag or small duffel bag
  • Travel journal and pen
  • Sewing & clothing care kit/stain remover
  • Electrical converters and adapters suitable for trip destination
