Have you ever had the chance to say L’Shana Tova in Italian?

Rabbi Goor, an esteemed member of the Reform Rabbinate since 1987, was part of the clergy at Temple Judea of Tarzana, CA for many years, and currently holds the position of Rabbinic Liaison at Da’at. Two years ago, Rabbi Goor was asked by the Beth Shalom Community of Milan to lead their High Holiday services, and he did not hesitate for a moment.

Q: How does it feel to be a clergy rabbi for 2 days?
Rabbi Goor: “It’s wonderful!” He says, “They really appreciate someone coming to be with them – they are so warm and welcoming. It’s so lovely to be invited into a community to be a part of their life at such an important time.”

Q: Any funny stories about your experience in Milan that you would like to share?
Rabbi Goor: “The kids are very respectful of clergy – they bow when they shake my hand – no one in the US or Israel does that. I could get used to it! The other story is that last year Kol Nidre fell on Vogue Night Out – when Vogue sponsors late night parties all over town, with music, food and models in the streets and squares. We came out of Tefilah and were surrounded by food, music and attractive people. What a dramatic shift of mood!”

From Israel, to the US, to Milan, we’re wishing you all a Shana Tova!
