ARRIVAL IN ROME | no guide

  • Arrive at the Rome International Airport.
  • Welcome by your driver and transfer to the hotel.
  • Check into the hotel. (Official hotel check-in is from 3:00 p.m., if your room isn't ready upon arrival you can leave your luggage with the concierge.)
  • Remainder of the day at leisure to get acclimated and explore on your own.

Overnight: Rome

Day Three Tuesday

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and embark on a walking tour to some of Rome's most beautiful structures, including the Spanish Steps, Europe's longest and widest staircase, the Trevi Fountain, the largest baroque fountain in the city, Piazza Navona (Navona Square) and more.
  • Lunch on own.
  • Tour ancient Rome, including the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, and other monuments that recall Rome's great famous and infamous historic past. View the Arch of Titus, perhaps the best-known symbol of the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

Day Four: Wednesday

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and depart.
  • Enjoy a special visit to the Vatican Museum and view some of the seldom-revealed Jewish, historic relics preserved there.
  • Continue to the Sistine Chapel, followed by a visit to St. Peter's Basilica, built in the late Renaissance.
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Continue to the Great Synagogue, built in 1904, home to the Museum of Jewish Heritage. 
  • Tour the Jewish Ghetto, established by Pope Paul IV in 1555. Rome's Jews were stripped of their rights and forced to live in this walled-in, overcrowded area. The medieval streets wind their way towards the square from which Jews were deported during the Holocaust.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on own and evening at leisure.

Overnight: Rome

Day Five: Thursday

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
  • Transfer to Rome's central train station and board the train for a journey through the beautiful countryside of Tuscany.
  • Arrive in Florence and transfer to your hotel for check-in.
  • Remainder of the day at leisure to explore on your own.
  • Dinner on own and evening at leisure.

Day Six: Friday

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and depart.
  • Begin the walking tour of Florence with a close look at the Jewish world once centered here. The stories that emanate from the late 14th century ghetto and the Moorish-style synagogue built in 1882 will be enhanced by a visit to the Museo Ebraica (Jewish Museum).
  • Lunch on own, en route.
  • Visit the Uffizi Gallery, one of the oldest and most famous art museums in Europe.
  • Walk to the Duomo, celebrated for its magnificent dome, designed by Brunelleschi, and view the Baptistery's renowned "Gates of Paradise" by Ghiberti.
  • Continue with an exploration of the open-air art museum of Piazza della Signoria, ending at Ponte Vecchio, or the "Old Bridge.”
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on own and evening at leisure.

Overnight: Florence

Day Seven: Saturday

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
  • Transfer to Florence's central train station and travel north to Venice.
  • Arrive in Venice and transfer to your hotel for check-in.
  • Remainder of the day at leisure to explore the alleyways and piazzas of this picturesque city on your own.
  • Dinner on own and evening at leisure.

Day Eight: Sunday

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and depart.
  • Begin a walking tour along the alleys, bridges and canals, which will bring alive the compelling beauty of this unique city. Visit St. Mark's Square, the symbol of romantic Venice, and then view the Golden Basilica of San Marco and the Bridge of Sighs.
  • Visit the Doge's Palace, once the residence of the Venetian Republic's supreme authority. Enjoy the beautiful interiors and explore its hidden dungeons.
  • Lunch on own.
  • Unchanged Legacy: Tour the Jewish Ghetto, the home and center of Venetian Jewish life, 1515-1848. Visit the Great Synagogue and Jewish Heritage Museum in the Nuovo Ghetto.
  • When in Venice: Ride a gondola through the canals of Venice.
  • Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on own and evening at leisure.

Overnight: Venice

  • Check out of the hotel and transfer to the Marco Polo International Airport.

  • Rates are per person based on double occupancy and a minimum of 4 full paying participants per vehicle. Should the number of participants drop below the minimum listed above, we will adjust the cost of the trip to reflect the additional expense of operating the program.
  • Tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the Expedition Educator are included.
  • Hotel Accommodations: The tour price includes all hotel accommodations, in hotel rooms with private baths. Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of the accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort. Two-bed rooms are reserved in most hotels. Triples are two-bed rooms with a rollaway cot where available and are not recommended when considering the comfort of those in the room. King-size beds are not available in most hotels; what is considered king-size usually consists of two single beds pushed together and made up separately, but with one headboard. Some two-bed rooms may have two twin - not full- or queen-size - beds.
  • Meals are included as specified in the itinerary.
  • Expedition Educator: All trips are conducted by our Expedition Educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.
  • Luggage Responsibility: All tour packages allow one piece of luggage per person and one carry-on bag. Excess luggage will be subject to charge of up to $100 per piece. The Travel Agent and/or Tour Operator shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of luggage/personal items. All damage/loss must be reported at time of incident and documented in writing by local authorities for submission to your insurance company.
  • Escorted tour packages are based upon a minimum number of participants. Cancellation of any tour for lack of participation will be advised at least 30 days prior to the tour's departure, and all money will be refunded. Landmark Cultural Expeditions will not be held responsible for any costs relating to the issuance and/or cancellation of airline tickets or visa fees. Voluntary cancellations due to political instability, acts of terrorism, government intervention or US State Department warning will be subject to the above fees, provided the program is deemed (by Landmark Cultural Expeditions) able to continue. Should Landmark Cultural Expeditions elect to cancel a departure for any of these reasons, every effort will be made to obtain refunds from suppliers, however no guarantees can be provided on their behalf.  

Not Included

  • Airfare to the tour departure point and from the tour ending point is not included. 
  • Personal Expenses: All personal expenses such as: laundry, valet service, cables, telephone calls and postage are not included.
  • Tips to the tour educator and driver (recommended guidelines vary based on number of participants)
    • For a group of 4-9 passengers in a mini-van with a separate driver:
      $100 per day for the tour guide & $50 per day for the driver
    • For a group of 10 – 19 passengers:
      $10 per participant per day for the tour guide & $5 per participant per day for the driver

Additional Information

  • Airline Security Measures: In the U.S., you must provide identification in the form of a passport at the time of airport check-in for travel to international destinations. Your passport name must match the name on your tour reservation and airline ticket or you may be denied boarding.
  • If you are traveling from an airport outside the jurisdiction of the U.S, you will need to determine what travel documentation and identification is required for that particular airport.
  • Due to heightened security regulations, certain items such as a metal nail file, pocketknife, cigarette lighter or tweezers, and some liquid, gel, or aerosol items may not be permitted in your carry-on luggage. Please call your airline prior to departure to obtain current information on non-permissible carry-on items and recommended airport check-in times. You may also wish to visit the Transportation Security Administration website at www.tsa.gov to obtain more information on acceptable identity documentation and prohibited luggage items.
  • Holidays and Museum Closures - Museum visits and personal shopping time may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances or the many religious, state and local holidays locally observed in the destinations being visited.
  • Photography During Tours: We will occasionally use photographs taken by fellow guests or your trip director for promotional purposes. If you prefer that your photo not be used in any marketing activities, please notify us at the start of your tour.
